Inspired by the bistro at the fishing harbour, the Sea Flavoured Reception design is a combo of bar, neon sign and geometric container.
Additionally, there is the showcase of artist Lu Ming-Te for his new container series “Hon An Ya” and well-known installation “Media is Everything”. The small-scale containers implying image of Noah’s Ark as the extension of his Great Migration concept are presented with animal appearance in “Hon An Ya”, which has been developed as a brand of art. With the “Media is Everything” neon light aside, the artist creates the imagery migration in the sense of both ecology and art.
Born in Kaohsiung in 1950, artist Lu Ming-Te took his master degree in Plastic Art and Mixed Media in University of Tsukuba, Japan. Inspired by Marshall McLuhan’s “The Medium is the Message”, he made his statement “Media is Everything” in 1986 and declared the paradigm shift in arts practices. By bridging art and symbolism, Lu expands his art practices with the diversity of multimedia, from painting, video, sculpture, installation to readymade objects and applies the symbols as a combo, the composition of objects and images, thus creates rich layers of narration in his works.
The new piece presented for interpreting “Sea Flavoured” is an extension of Lu Ming Te's context “Great Migration”. Lu applies inter-relationships with contemporary art, human and nature into perspective according to the “Great Migration” concept. On the other hand, migration is also a metaphor of his long art practices path in great scale. The small-scale migration image is combined with “Hon An Ya”, an art brand project in process over the two years, therefore covered with the signature icons and symbols. The image of the relatively small container similizes the ark, origin of all life, moored in the venue, implying the artist's port city background. Cows as pictorial and sculptural visualization of multiple meanings symbolize the return to nature and life.
