Art Is Here (KCMA)

2019.01.12 - 2020.12.27 KCMA Galleries 201~202

It has been said that: "A city without an art museum is poor indeed." The presence of an art museum adds to a city's appeal, and cities with art museums are attractive and livable. After centuries of evolution, art museums have been transformed from the private collections of the nobility to open public viewing places, and from "wonder-rooms" to today's "white cubes." But since long ago, art museums have not just been places for research, preservation, display, and education. With the changes in the times, art museums have become multipurpose spaces where we can gather for leisure entertainment, fashionable social interaction, and discussion of issues affecting society, and they are also indicators of a city's advancement.

But no matter how the times change, works of art are still the heart and soul of an art museum and visual emblems of urban culture. Collecting artists' gems is still an art museum's core value. In that light, how should an art museum collect works of art? Where should works of art be placed after they arrive at the museum? How should works in the collection be managed? Does art have a maximum freshness period? This exhibition—"Art Is Here"—will overturn your impressions of art museums, unveil the museum's mysterious collection work, and share the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts' rich collection with everyone. In addition, we invite you to investigate the spirit of artistic practice from the perspective of works of art. You will discover the relationships between materials and objects, experience the fun of art, and uncover the museum's multitudinous faces and possibilities from various educational activities.
