Chains, Link the World – Kang Muxiang
2021.12.06 - 2022.03.13

Curator: Emerson Wang
2021.12.06—2022.3.13 Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts
2021.12.06—2022.1.17 National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying)
2021.12.06—2022.3.13 China Steel Corporation Headquarters
Challenging extremely difficult creations, sculpture artist Kang Muxiang used retired elevator cables from Taipei 101, one of the world’s tallest buildings, to make a series of monumental sculptures, which gave the recycled cables a new life. With natural mind and love, the artist transformed sufferings of life into joy of creation, giving his artworks a symbol of transformation and rebirth, and dedicating them to the land he loves.
This series of artworks departed from Taiwan and toured to Switzerland, Germany, France and the US in recent years, exhibiting at different art festivals in several cities. Kang Muxiang would like to link the world through his art and did receive wide attention and praise.
After the touring exhibitions, those works returned to Taiwan with glory and arrived at Kaohsiung Harbor in November 2021. To respond to the internationally-oriented development and open-minded vision of Kaohsiung City, the ocean city and iron-steel industry capital of Taiwan, four of the works are on display at Kaohsiung, from December 2021 until March 2022, separately at the Lake Plaza of Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, the park of National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) and the outdoors of China Steel Corporation Headquarters.
In the hands of Kang Muxiang, the toughness of steel was transformed into the sensibility of art, the chains of which reflect eternal value of the art. This is a process of rebirth and a continuation of infinite life. This is a glory and a present for Taiwan.
