Upcoming│Can We All Fit In?
2025.09.06 - 2025.12.28
KMFA Gallery 404-405
What is an artist collective? How do artists come together to communicate, operate, and create spaces for collaboration? In the development of contemporary art in Taiwan, many renowned artist collectives and the spaces they run have emerged. These groups, either loosely organized or rigorously structured, often embrace a utopian spirit, each reflecting the creative energy and atmosphere of their respective generations. Whether functioning as internal studios for artistic practice or as outward-facing spaces open to the public, the physical environments they operate often serve as gathering places for artists. These spaces brim with colorful pigments, unfinished drafts, assorted hardware parts, electronic components, woodworking tools, paints, objects, books, and even temporary exhibitions, embodying the users’ abundant creativity and nurturing the potential for artistic production.
Can We All Fit In?
is an exhibition born from a curiosity about how relationships and connections are formed among people, objects, and the environment. Focusing on Asparagus Studio, a young artist collective, as a subject of research and collaboration, the exhibition documents its development since its founding in 2021. During the research process, a game-like Q&A format was used to engage in dialogues with the 11 participating artists, observing and gathering information often considered mundane or boring in everyday life, such as casual conversations, studio arrangements, and even feedback on one another’s works. Ultimately, the interactions and exchanges among members of the artist collective are visualized and showcased, ranging from the perception of external environments to emotional evaluation, from physical space to inner mind. This exhibition is aimed at mapping out the production of an artwork, the operation of a collective, and even the formation of an artistic space. Through visualized documentation, it subtly outlines a slice of Taiwan’s contemporary art scene.
