An Aesthetic Revolution That Transforms the Way We See the Everyday
Rethinking the Familiar World Through Line and Color
Michael Craig-Martin (b. 1941) has significantly expanded the boundaries of Conceptual art through his innovative use of line, vivid color, and modes of representation. Marking the artist’s first solo show in Taiwan, this exhibition not only provides a comprehensive overview of his artistic career spanning more than five decades, but also showcases his latest and previously unseen works.
Using his signature outlines and saturated colors, the artist removes ordinary objects, such as mobile phones, light bulbs, and headphones, from their everyday contexts and transforms them into pure visual symbols. In doing so, he reveals the essence of the contemporary material world while evoking a sense of universal order.
The exhibition traces Craig-Martin’s artistic evolution from early conceptual works and monumental wall drawing to paintings, sculpture, prints and digital work today, guiding viewers through the development of his visual language. Through a profound dialogue on the relationship between objects and images, KMFA invites viewers to step into the exhibition and join in a renewed exploration of the details of contemporary life.

As a leading figure in British art and an influential mentor to the Young British Artists, Michael Craig-Martin presents his first major solo exhibition in Taiwan. Co-curating the exhibition with the artist’s team, KMFA offers a comprehensive overview of the major developments in his artistic practice and their impact on contemporary art worldwide.
Highlight 2: Rethinking the Contemporary World Through Everyday Objects
Through minimalist lines, highly saturated colors, and large-scale spatial installations, the artist transforms all-too-familiar objects—such as headphones, light bulbs, and glasses—into a distinctive contemporary visual language. By reimagining these everyday items as bold graphic forms within an immersive environment, Craig-Martin invites viewers to step directly into his world and rethink the subtle relationship between seeing and the ordinary.
Highlight 3: Tracing an Artistic Evolution Spanning More Than Five Decades
This exhibition highlights the development of Craig-Martin’s creative vision and signature visual language. From his iconic early conceptual masterpiece
An Oak Tree
(1973) and monumental wall drawing to his vibrant representations of everyday items across painting, sculpture, prints, and recent digital work, the exhibition offers a complete journey through his groundbreaking career up to his latest, newly unveiled creations.
Highlight 4: First International Presentation of
Cosmos
: A Sensory Journey Through the Artist’s Career
This exhibition features the first international presentation of Craig Martin's digital installation,
Cosmos
(2024). Using all of his drawings created over the last forty years, this animated work envelops viewers in an immersive retrospective tracing the artist's complete career trajectory. In his own words, 'It's a summation of the cosmos, of my cosmos, of what I've done.'

A key figure in British art, Michael Craig-Martin is one of the most influential artists and teachers of his generation. Educated in the US before relocating to the UK in 1966, he gained acclaim with
An Oak Tree
before shifting toward pictorial representations of everyday objects.
Working across sculpture, painting, printmaking, and digital media, Craig-Martin fuses Pop, Minimalism, and Conceptualism. By building a visual vocabulary of ubiquitous items—from coffee cups to smartphones—he invites viewers to rethink how we see, perceive, and navigate the modern world.
