Anthropocene

2023.08.12 - 2023.12.03 KMFA Gallery 101-103

The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to present Anthropocene, a thought-provoking special exhibition exploring issues of sustainability through the power of art. Featuring the work of esteemed photographer Edward Burtynsky and documentary directors Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier, Anthropocene uses photographs, films, and augmented reality technology to illustrate the ways in which humans have impacted the planet. Through the collaborative efforts of the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), the National Gallery of Canada, and Fondazione MAST of Bologna, Italy, Anthropocene has been showcased in Canada and toured Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Argentina from 2020 to 2023. The Taiwan leg of the tour marks the first inclusion of local artists Chi Po-Lin, Yang Shun-Fa, Lucas K. Doolan, and Lu Yu-Jui. These artists have added their unique voices to further explore the global impact of anthropocene man-made landscapes and geological variations and reflect upon critical environmental issues such as global climate change, overexploitation of natural resources, and rising sea levels.
