2041: Kaiwai Futures
is an exhibition by the contemporary art collective 2041, co-curated by Fang Yen Hsiang and Yves Chun-Ta Chiu. Participating artists include Cheng Jen-Pei, Yves Chun-Ta Chiu, Chuang Ho, Yuchi Hsiao, Fang Yen Hsiang, Huang Chien-Hua and Lin Cheng Wei. Bringing together members whose experiences span different cities, artistic backgrounds, and cultural trajectories, the project explores how heterogeneous artistic and cultural communities can form temporary yet active networks through unexpected connections.
Through artworks, actions, performances, workshops, and convivial gatherings, the exhibition not only asks how communities come into being, but also proposes a further question: in a contemporary society shaped by mobility, fragmentation, and algorithmic structures, how might cultural production and collective action become ways of forging connections with the future?
In this project, the idea of Kaiwai Futures does not refer to predicting the future, nor merely imagining ideal communities. Rather, it points to a practice of cultivating forms of connection that have not yet fully emerged. It asks how, beyond established social boundaries, cultural classifications, and urban algorithms, new modes of relation can be initiated through prompts, encounters, exchanges, and collaboration. In doing so, the future is no longer understood as an abstract horizon, but as a social prototype that can be temporarily enacted, collectively tested, and continuously reimagined.
