Artistic Director/Sakuliu, 20th National Award for Arts winner

撒古流sakuliu,生於屏東縣三地門鄉排灣族達瓦蘭部落。
其以敏銳的心靈關注著部落的文化變異,經常以創作的手段,或透過公眾活動、儀式,把部落已失落或即將流失的傳統重新建構,進行文化的推動與改革,展現多重藝術能力與當代社會的省思。力圖透過自己從事的每一件事、每一個工作,傳播自己民族、部落好的文化傳統,喚醒族人的自覺與自信。其不斷的傳遞來自祖靈的養分給族人,並將此視為自身使命,且擴散到諸多的台灣原民族群。
撒古流創作涉及領域包含各類繪畫、雕刻、陶藝、雕塑、建築等藝術類別,40年來投身文化與藝術創作的成果,於2018年獲頒「第二十屆國家文藝獎」。


Sakuliu is a Paiwan artist born in the Dawalan Village of Sandimen Township, Pingtung County.
With his keen heart and soul, he pays close attention to the cultural changes of Paiwan people. He often uses his artistic creation or public activities and ceremonies to revive and reconstruct those already lost or disappearing elements of Paiwan tradition. Through his promotion and reform of traditional indigenous cultures, he demonstrates his versatility as an artist and his reflection upon the contemporary society. He spares no effort to make better known the treasures in the cultural tradition of Paiwan people and awaken the self-awareness and self-confidence among them by taking it as his mission to continuously sharing what he has drawn from the heritage passed down by the ancestors with not only the other members of Paiwan People but also the other indigenous communities in Taiwan.
Sakuliu’s art covers a wide variety of fields, including painting, carving, pottery, sculpture, and architecture. He was given the 22nd National Awards for Arts in 2018 for his achievements in indigenous culture and art development over the past 40 years.
