Kulele is a Paiwan artist born in the Valjulu Village, Sandimen Township, Pingtung. He excels at using stiff and hard media, such as mechanical parts, metal scraps, and driftwood, to create works featuring dedicate and soft lines. He infuses his strong affections for family and nature into his works. Kulele often regards the village as his watchtower to observe the world. “When I look around, I can see the changes in society and the outside world. When I look down, I can clearly see how the other villagers are living their lives.” This idea enables not only the transition of tradition to contemporariness but also the merge of the two in Kulele’s works.
In addition to his solo exhibition, Kulele also created installation works, such as Water Waves and Swallow Plover, in recent years. He also engages in space design and planning, enabling the tradition of indigenous cultures to extend to different spaces and have dialogues with the contemporary time.
