甜蜜謊言之全民瘋糖 (Honey Trap of Sweet Lie)

Flyingfish Meysega

Flyingfish Meysega is a Tao artist born in the Iranmeylek Village on Orchid Island. He grew up immersed in the oceanic cultures on the island and, therefore, his energy of artistic creation comes from his deep tie with his village and his participation in social movements to protect his hometown. He bluntly represents his reflection upon his years of participation in social movements and anti-nuclear movements. His early works were mainly oil paintings and he did not start experimenting with driftwood, leather, clay, metal, and ready-mades to create large-scale installation works until he moved to the coastal area in Taitung in 2001. His solo exhibitions include Return of the Color Blue and Golden Years. In 2007, he was invited as an artist-in-residence in the Green Island International Human Rights Artists’ Workshop and participated in several joint exhibitions.

Through the eyes of ancestral spirits,
the surroundings within sight
used to the plain where we ran freely,
the battle field where we killed our enemies, and
the land of abundance where we went hunting.
Now,
it has become a boisterous world of different colors,
where people are shouting with boiling emotions.
They carry a palanquin, chiming loudly “Dong Suan, Dong Suan, Dong Suan.” *
The viscous substance oozing from the palanquin
gradually
sticks and traps people in it.
They cannot get themselves out of it.
Look, the viscous honey
becomes a trap of mesmerizing magic.
(* The term “Dong Suan” means “winning the election”.)
